While it is true that the positive aspects of solar energy seem to out-weigh the negative, it is imperative that we explore those negative aspects in order to get a clear view of the solar energy picture. Entering into any new endeavor without all the facts is a recipe for disaster. This is true even of solar energy.
Some of the most popular solar energy pros and cons are not that easy to decipher. The most negative portion of solar energy use is the initial start-up cost. These are often not viable or reasonable for the average home owner to pay. While solar energy is more sustainable and often more reasonable to use, particularly in a warm and sunny climate, the costs to set up solar energy, even on a residential level are out of reach of the average home owner, especially in today’s climate of economic depression.
The cost effectiveness is not the only negative aspect of solar energy.In climates where the sun does not shine all day and every day, solar energy is simply not efficient. Solar energy is far more costly than any other type of energy, but it also simply is not as clean as you may have been led to believe. Solar energy requires the use of some very toxic chemicals in order to create the solar panels and other items which are necessary for the structure and function of a solar energy system.
What this means to you, the user, is that with every breakdown, every worn out solar panel, chemicals which are nearly as toxic as the chemicals used in fossil fuels may leech into the soil. These are typically unknown aspects of solar energy use that should be considered prior to entering into long term solar energy dependence.
Solar energy has, as its best recommendation,that governments and industries are willing to assist in the development of solar power plants and solar stations. It is not wholly without danger or problems, and the costs are high,but it does appear to be the best method of sustainable energy and with consistent development and research, furthering solar energy will decrease our dependence on other countries and on energy methods that are far more costly and dangerous.
Currently residential solar energy is in development that could cost far less and could lower the amount of chemicals that are necessary in solar energy. Solar energy has pros and cons, as every type of energy does, but it does appear at the present time to be our best bet in cleaner energy and in lowering our dependence on others.
